Today our Senators, after a mere 3 hours of debate, voted 48-51 to defeat Senator Arlen Specter’s (R-PA) amendment to the Military Commissions Act of 2006 to ensure federal courts could review the legitimacy of individual imprisonment on suspicion of involvement in terrorism, also known as a writ of habeas corpus (See article here). Habeas Corpus is one of the cornerstones of our Constitution, allowing for judicial review of actions of the government.

This bill, without this amendment, essentially lays the groundwork for an effective fascist state. (??!!!!)

This is the same country where a mere 30% (+ or -) back this President. To the rest of the nation and the world, he ranks somewhere between mildly irritating and full-blown out of his flippin’ mind.

Today, on my local Air America affiliate, I heard a sound byte in which a talk show host spoke of Democrats finding they could do nothing in response to the political hi-jinks of those on the other side of the aisle. . . .WHAT?!!

So, exactly what is it that poses such a great danger to congress people and their careers that is so much more important than their constituents, their country and their own families?

Is this the compass we follow in our daily lives? Is your conscience for sale to the highest bidder? Somehow, I doubt it.

In the humble opinion of this blogger, our society as a whole requires a mass shift of priorities in order to reclaim our country, our government and our lives once and for all. More on this in the next installment.

Always remember that no matter what happens, your future is up to you. Find that Peace Place and live there.

Cheers!
